The Regional Inception Workshop for the Mekong CREATES Project—Capacity-building for Resilient and Enhanced Agricultural Technologies and Food Systems—was successfully convened on 5 June 2025 at the Mekong Institute in Khon Kaen, Thailand. The workshop was organized by the Mekong Institute (MI) with support from the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
The event brought together 24 representatives from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Vietnam, including technical specialists, private-sector actors, and development partners, to introduce the project’s framework and regional implementation strategy.
MILS Engagement
Mr. Kyaw Thu Htet, CEO of Myanmar Innovative Life Sciences (MILS), participated in the workshop as an invited delegate from Myanmar. Alongside representatives from across the Mekong region, he contributed to discussions on:
National-level development priorities
Strategies to strengthen food safety
Pathways to enhance climate-resilient agriculture
Key challenges and best practices in transitioning toward sustainable food systems
The workshop provided an opportunity for cross-country knowledge sharing and highlighted the importance of collaborative, evidence-based approaches in addressing emerging challenges across the agri-food sector.
Workshop Focus
The one-day program was held under the global theme of World Food Safety Day 2025 — “Food Safety: Science in Action.” Discussions emphasized the critical role of science-based solutions in shaping safe, resilient, and sustainable food systems for the future.
Looking Ahead
The Mekong CREATES Project will continue implementation through 2026, supporting capacity-building activities and regional cooperation across four countries.
MILS remains committed to working closely with Mekong Institute and regional partners to strengthen climate-resilient agriculture and contribute to a more secure and sustainable food system for the Mekong region.
